Food and Wine at Thanksgiving

Pairing wine with food is not an exact science. You should drink what you enjoy, period. Do not force yourself to drink a pairing that someone else claims is excellent if you do not like it. The following suggestions are for those who want to experiment with what wine and food we at Easley Winery enjoy matching up around the holidays. If you have never had the wines below, feel free to stop in for complimentary tasting 7 days a week. Monday - Saturday 9am-6pm, Sunday 12-4.

Pairing wine and cheese. Due to the saltiness and texture qualities of cheese, different types of cheese do well with different types of wine. A few favorite matches include: Blue Cheese with Easley Governor’s Riesling or Specialty Ice Wine. Cheddar cheese is more flexible and can be paired with many different types of wine. It goes great with Easley’s Chancellor or Governor’s Cabernet Sauvignon.

Turkey and ham are served quite often around the holidays. When deciding what wine to serve to your friends and family or to take to the host, it is hard to go wrong with Easley’s Governor’s Chardonnay. The reason is because it is light, and does not overpower the menu being served. If you know you or your host prefer to stay on the sweet side, then take along a bottle of Barrel White as well. Enjoy yourselves and have fun this holiday season!
